William N. Hannah, Jr., M.D., FACP, has been named Executive Director of Medical Education and Designated Institutional Officer for Memorial Health’s graduate medical education program. In this role, he will be responsible for all residency programs and ensuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accreditation standards.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Hannah to Memorial Health,” said Ramon Meguiar, M.D., chief medical officer. “He is an experienced physician leader and teacher who will provide outstanding leadership for our graduate medical education program.”

Dr. Hannah previously served as Associate Dean of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium and Director of Medical Education for the 59^th Medical Wing, which is the Air Force’s largest medical wing and is the Air Force functional medical command for Joint Base San Antonio. In this role, he provided direct oversight for 36 GME programs for SAUSHEC, ensuring more than 360 Air Force residents and fellows met educational requirements. He also served as the Air Force Military Consultant to the Surgeon General for Internal Medicine. Dr. Hannah also served as program director for SAUSHEC Internal Medicine at Joint Base San Antonio – Fort Sam Houston, TX from 2008 – 2015, where he was responsible for the clinical education and assessment of 90 internal medicine residents.

During his military career, he also served as program director for the internal medicine residency at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Dr. Hannah has earned many honors and awards during his distinguished military medical center, including the prestigious Paul W. Myers Medical Award, which is presented annually to the Air Force Medical Corps officer who made the most significant contribution to the continued good health of the men and women of the United States Air Force. 

Dr. Hannah completed his undergraduate degree at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He completed his residency at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, where he served as Chief of Medical Residents.
