The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Savannah and surrounding area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Saturday, September 29 at Ellis Square in Savannah, Georgia.

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete a two-mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony.

“I decided to chair the Walk to End Alzheimer’s because I have personally worked with this disease for 20 years”, added John Blalock, chair, 2018 Savannah Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “I’ve not only witnessed what it can do to an individual, but also what it can do to their loved ones. I personally do not know anyone that has not been affected in some way by Alzheimer’s. This disease has taken so many people from us so that is why I will always fight to find a cure.”

In addition to the two-mile walk, participants will enjoy a full day of activities for all ages. The event will have live music, face painting and a photo booth.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 16 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Georgia alone, there are more than 140,000 people living with the disease and 527,000 caregivers.
