The Neighborhood at Starland Village, a planned collection of coworking offices offering business resources in Starland District, recently hosted Pitch Savannah, a virtual investor roadshow event for five area startups.

“Innovation and technology are alive and well in Savannah, and we were pleased to host this inaugural event to showcase the entrepreneurial and business resources we are planning for The Neighborhood,” said Travis Stringer, president, Foram Group. “As an engaged member of the local community, it is our goal to offer an array of networking, team building, and collaborative opportunities to help our business owners stay motivated and successful.”

In partnership with José Mallabo, co-founder and chief executive officer of Vireo Labs, a company that develops career path discovery and education planning tools, Pitch Savannah focused on introducing west coast investors to a dynamic group of startup companies based in Savannah. Investors were able to learn about the most promising and emerging technologies from the following companies:

Green Badger, an automation solutions provider for green construction compliance;

Corstrata, a tech-enabled solution for the chronic wound problem in the United States;

ProjectMQ, a multimedia search engine for the world’s best independent video games;

Vireo Labs, the next-generation career and competency assessment tool; and

Skyraider, a drone company focused on providing integration and data management to the agricultural industry.

Presenters had 15 minutes to pitch, followed by up to 40 minutes of questions and answers from investors. All of the startups selected to participate have a product in the market and management/founding teams in place. Most have raised pre-seed rounds of up to $250,000 and half of the companies are already reporting revenue.

“As entrepreneurs in the Southeast we are uniquely challenged with raising capital,” said Mallabo. “Most venture or growth capital for early stage companies comes out of California — so we brought California to Savannah.”

In addition to offering monthly events to entrepreneurs, The Neighborhood will foster a community of small businesses through its affordable co-working spaces. Amenities will also include broadband fiber internet, conference rooms, 24-hour access, a mother’s room, educational resources and networking events.
