Thursday, September 20th, 2018

The Caretta Research Project is pleased to announce its annual Sea Turtle Celebration will be held on Wednesday, October 24, from 6-9 p.m., at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Juha Jaakkola located at 67 Bluff Drive on beautiful Isle of Hope in Savannah. Proceeds from this event will be used to directly fund sea turtle research, education and conservation efforts.

Dedicated to the mission of ensuring the long term protection and full recovery of the Northwest Atlantic Loggerhead Sea Turtle population, CRP has planned an entertaining evening under a full moon and overlooking the Skidaway River. The Sea Turtle Celebration will include a juried silent auction, Big Bon Pizza Food Truck, live music, beer, wine and handcrafted Turtle-Tini cocktails.

CRP has provided hands-on research, conservation efforts and educational programs since 1973. The nonprofit organization uses long-term monitoring, innovative research tools and techniques, and multi-institutional collaborations to generate scientifically grounded results that can be applied to sea turtle conservation both regionally and internationally.

RESULTS: CRP has protected and monitored over 4,300 nests, leading to the successful release of 302,895 hatchlings. Their work has helped produce an 8-fold increase in loggerhead nesting since 1973 on Wassaw Island, providing the foundation for a now strong and recovering loggerhead population.
