Savannah State's NROTC Awards Five Preparatory Scholarships

Savannah State University’s Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps inducted five first-year students into the highly selective Presidential NROTC Preparatory Scholarship Program. These students were honored in a ceremony Saturday, August 25, 11:30 a.m., King-Frazier Student Center. Rear Admiral Mike Bernacchi, Commander, Naval Service Training Command, and Captain Chad Falgout, SSU NROTC Commanding Officer, welcomed the students to the program.
The students are:
Miriam Arredondo-De Jesus, a marine sciences major from Jonesboro, Ga., wants to conduct research in the unexplored parts of the ocean and work hands-on with aquatic mammals.
Destiny Bonwell, from Jacksonville, Florida, is majoring in biology with an aim to become a surgeon. While in the U.S. Navy, she plans to pursue a position in the aviation field.
Sajé Capers is a homeland security and emergency management major from Lithonia, Ga. He plans to eventually work for the FBI.
Yaritza Nunez, a mathematics major from Jacksonville, Florida, is inspired by her father and uncle’s love of numbers. She plans to one day become a high school math teacher.
Taylor Palmore, from Stapleton, Ga., is a biology major. She is interested in viruses, DNA and evolution. She intends to use her degree to conduct research on biological and biochemical challenges that affect military life directly.
