Attorney Maria D. Sayers Joins Harris Lowry Manton LLP as an Associate

Accomplished attorney Maria D. Sayers recently joined the law firm of Harris Lowry Manton, LLP as an Associate. In her new position, Sayers focuses primarily on business tort cases and plaintiff’s litigation at the firm’s Savannah office.
 
Before joining Harris Lowry Manton LLP, Sayers owned her own law firm and, most recently, worked as a contractor for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Savannah. She also served as the coordinator for Chatham County’s Indigent Defense Unit, where she collaborated with judiciary, executives and attorneys to ensure timely appointment of counsel in indigent criminal cases.
 
Sayers previously served as Staff Attorney to Chatham County Superior Court Judge Penny Haas Freesemann and worked for all six Superior Court judges under the direction of former Chief Judge Perry Brannen, Jr. Earlier in her career, she worked as an Associate Attorney at a major law firm in Savannah.

Born in California and raised in Gwinnett County, Ga., Sayers earned a B.A. in Journalism and Spanish, magna cum laude, from Georgia State University and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law.
 
Before attending law school, Sayers worked as a staff writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, production assistant for NBC’s Today show during the 1996 Olympic Games and international flight attendant with Delta Air Lines.
 
A longtime member of the Georgia Bar Association and the Savannah Bar Association, Sayers has a strong commitment to public service. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Savannah Bar Association and previously served as President of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers, board member for the Junior League of Savannah and board member for the Truancy Intervention Project in Savannah.
 
Over the years, Sayers also coordinated Georgia child support seminars for the Eastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, organized Guardian ad Litem training in Savannah and coached students in the Georgia High School Mock Trial Competition. She currently resides with her husband and two children on Skidaway Island, Ga.
