City, Home Depot Partner to Improve Veterans’ Homes

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018

Savannah City Council accepted a $10,500 donation from The Home Depot Foundation for the Savannah Affordable Housing Fund. The City and Team Depot volunteers will use the funds to purchase materials to improve the homes of two Savannah veterans. Renovations will begin tomorrow.

The City’s Housing and Neighborhood Services Department identified the local veterans through the affordable housing program and applied to link the veterans to The Home Depot’s Celebration of Service program. The City provided the foundation with the cost of improvements and the scope of work. The City is also serving as the liaison between Home Depot and the veterans and will follow-up to ensure all improvements made to the homes are completed post-construction.

“We are very thankful to The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot for the financial and human resources they are donating to improve the home of deserving veteran homeowners,” said Housing and Neighborhood Services Director Martin Fretty. “This is a great example of a corporation partnering with the City and the Savannah Affordable Housing Fund to address local housing needs and opportunities.”
