Elan Technology Completes Capital Improvement Project

In response to increased demand for its materials processing services, Elan Technology, an award-winning manufacturer, announced today the completion of its rotary calciner project. The major capital improvement project includes the installation of a state-of-the-art rotary calciner and construction of a new, 15,000 square foot facility dedicated to house the rotary calciner as well as its advanced material handling equipment.
This is a big year for Elan Technology. In addition to the rotary calciner project’s completion, 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the company’s founding. Elan Technology is the largest independent U.S. company in its field and has produced advanced ceramic and glass products since 1948. The company’s advanced materials serve a number of industries, including the automotive, telecommunications, appliance, electronic, aerospace, and defense industries. In 2017, the State of Georgia named Elan Technology its Georgia Automotive Innovator of the Year.
“Our customers have indicated their desire for us to add this capability over the last few years. The project has taken over 12 months for design, engineering and construction. We are excited to expand our current processing services and offer our customers the continued high-quality support they expect,” said Tak Argentinis, Chairman and CEO.
Capable of processing hundreds of tons of material each year, the expansion will allow Elan Technology to offer additional value to existing customers by combining services at one location, simplifying their supply chain and reducing overall cost. Additionally, these new capabilities will allow the company to enter new markets where it does not currently have a presence.
Background on the rotary calciner project: Elan announced construction on the rotary calciner project in February 2017. At that time, the company anticipated adding 10 percent to its workforce once the project was complete. Rotary calciners can be used in a variety of thermal treatment applications, such as drying or the decomposition of bulk materials.
This new equipment is an indirect fired rotary calciner, which means that it is heated from the outside of an enclosed chamber and can process materials that are sensitive to oxidation, susceptible to contamination, are fine, dusty, or thermally sensitive. As a result of these advantages, the indirect fired rotary calciner is able to process a wide variety of materials.
