Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, January 29th, 2019

Savannah State University (SSU) will host two science events for middle and high school students in February.

Saturday, February 2, SSU’s marine sciences program will again host the Southern Stingray Bowl. The winning high school team from the Southern Stingray Bowl will move to the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) to compete against 24 other regional first place teams in Washington, D.C.

The NOSB, an interdisciplinary ocean science education program of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership (COL), is a quiz-bowl style academic competition that tests students’ knowledge of ocean-related topics, which include cross-disciplines of biology, chemistry, policy, physics and geology. The event begins at 8 a.m., Student Union. Further details: http://bit.ly/StingrayBowl2019

February 5-7 dozens of middle and high school students from Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, Screven, Tattnall and Toombs counties will show their science and engineering projects. The regional fair gives students a setting to develop important critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork and personal management skills.
