Senior Citizens, Inc. has received $2,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation just in time to help feed local residents.  SCI will use the gift to help fund its Meal on Wheels program.

According to SCI President, Patti Lyons, “the funds received from the Foundation will help reduce the number of seniors in our community facing the threat of hunger each day. Georgia ranks 7th in the nation for senior hunger. One in every six seniors is unsure where they will get their next meal. There are still hundreds of older adults on the waiting list for meals and support like this will help us in our effort to reduce the wait, by providing  healthy meals delivered with a warm smile to more of our seniors in need.”

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation donation will help fight senior hunger by supporting SCI’s Meals on Wheels program, which currently delivers 1,800 hot, healthy meals and friendly smiles each day to seniors throughout Chatham, Bryan, Liberty and Effingham counties.

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
