Wednesday, March 27th, 2019

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting their 17th Annual Poker Run on Sunday, April 28 at the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Complex located at 1050 Carl Griffin Dr. in Savannah. All proceeds will benefit the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, a facility that houses abandoned and neglected children.

“Each year, we throw a Christmas party for the children at the Hahira campus and this poker run funds that, as well as a large purchase that the home needs,” explained Chatham County Sheriff John T. Wilcher. “Last year, we contributed $25,000 towards the cost of a new generator.”

While motorcycles are the typical mode of transportation during the poker run, any legal vehicle is acceptable. Participants will visit five checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. Have the best hand and winning is purely a matter of chance.

“Participants are encouraged to play multiple hands,” said Sheriff.

The cost to participate is $15 per hand or $25 per couple. First through fifth place winners will be awarded anywhere between $100 and $500.
