The Abbie DeLoach Foundation (ALD) held its 3rd Annual Scholarship Luncheon on April 26th at Compassion Christian Church to announce the Scholarship Class of 2019. Local television personality Frank Sulkowski served as the master of ceremonies for the event which highlighted the achievements of several local high school students and collegiate students from throughout the state. Scholarships were distributed in the categories of athletics, missions, and academics.
In 2015, Abbie DeLoach was one of five Georgia Southern University nursing students killed in a 7-vehicle accident on I-16.
Her family and friends founded the Abbie DeLoach Foundation to give back to others with a focus on Abbie’s main interests:
Education, Athletics, World Missions, and Nursing. 2018 was a busy year for ALD as Jimmy DeLoach, Abbie’s father and ALD
Founder, was present for the bill signing with Governor Deal for “Hands Free Driving.” ALD also started a 5k in affiliation with
Georgia Southern University that had over 600 runners and the ALD team visited India to unveil the future site of “Abbie’s Home for Women” which is expected to be complete in 2019.
“The ALD Foundation continues to look for young adults who have the capability to push themselves way beyond what is considered normal,” said Jimmy DeLoach. “We are committed to recognizing students and athletes who do not accept the word impossible but make it possible. The ones who set the example instead of being an example.”
This year’s Scholarship Luncheon also introduced a new program for ALD, Nurses for Nations. Nurses for Nations will coordinate trips abroad each year to, “promote healing and invites anyone who has a heart to serve and make a difference in the world.” In 2019, Nurses for Nations will send groups to Ecuador and Africa.
