Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, April 25th, 2019

The Georgia DOT will hold a Public Information Open House to discuss project updates on the proposed plans necessary to replace the bridges over Bull River and Lazeretto Creek on US 80 located on the Tybee Island Causeway. The public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Tybee Island Public Safety Building located at 78 Van Horne Avenue on Tybee Island.

The Open House will provide the public with an opportunity to view the proposed conceptual plans, ask questions, and comment on the project. This public meeting will be informal, and the public is invited to attend anytime during these hours.

This project proposes to replace Bull River and Lazaretto Creek bridges and roadway improvements on US 80 that would serve future needs for island access with enhanced safety for vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists.  The project refinements encompass bridge alignments and related improvements on US 80, which have changed from the alternatives shown at the last public meeting in 2015.

Written comments can be submitted at the meeting or a court reporter will be available to allow the public an opportunity to make verbal comments that will be transcribed.
