Relay for Life of the Coastal Empire May 17th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, April 30th, 2019

On Friday, May 17th, local participants will join together at the annual Relay for Life of the Coastal Empire to help beat our biggest rival - CANCER. The event starts at 4pm at Daffin Park.

What happens at a Relay for Life event?  Individuals and teams set up around a path or track.  Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times, symbolizing the battle waged around the clock by those facing cancer.

Each participant raises money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save lives.

This year’s theme, Wipe Out Cancer, will bring a special atmosphere that can be enjoyed by all as we celebrate survivors and those who have passed.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is the only organization fighting cancer on every front. Funds raised from Relay for Life events allow the ACS to attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies and innovative research, to building supportive communities that come together to help those affected by cancer with access to treatment. The ACS provides empowering resources to deploying activists to raise awareness and develop game-changing approaches to address the cancer burden for all people.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to Celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and Fight Back against the disease.
