Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, May 1st, 2019

The Richmond Hill/Bryan County Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Opioid Education Forum/Coffee & Conversation on Thursday, May 9 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the J.W. Stevens Wetlands Center, 240 Cedar St. A continental breakfast will be served beginning at 8 a.m.

Featured panelists:

  • Mary Fuller, project coordinator, Bryan Prevention & Recovery

  • Mitch Shores, chief of police, Richmond Hill

  • Mike Maxwell, captain, Bryan County Sheriff

  • Lisa M. Pokomy, LMSW, Employee Assistance Program Manager, Army Substance Abuse Program, USAG Ft. Stewart/HAAF

Bryan County has the highest opioid prescribing rate when compared to Effingham, Liberty and Chatham counties, which means the community has easy access to these highly addictive drugs. By hosting this forum, the Chamber hopes to educate and inform local businesses and residents about the threat at hand and reduce the volume of opioids prescribed to Bryan County residents, thus lowering the risk of abuse.

The forum is complimentary to RHBC Chamber members and invited guests. Cost for non-members is $15.00 and RSVP’s are required by May 6.
