Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, June 13th, 2019

Construction began today on Omega Construction’s latest Savannah project, the Avid™ Hotel, a new name in the hospitality industry. The property is adjacent to Exit 94 off I-95 on Hwy. 204.

Avid Hotel, which is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), is locally owned by HOS Management and Development Group. HOS selected Omega Construction as the general contractor for the project.

“We are thrilled to partner with HOS Management to help bring Avid to Savannah,” said Todd Mayo, Omega Construction’s Georgia division manager.

A British hospitality company, IHG is one of the world’s most recognizable hotel brands, including Kimpton Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites and others with future Avid hotel locations planned domestically and in Canada, Mexico and Europe.

“Omega projects are known for high quality and attention to detail, so the nature of the Avid concept and HOS Management and Development Group’s experience and mission is something we are committed to honoring,” said Omega President Barry Hennings. “We have tremendous respect for their long history of managing Savannah hospitality properties.”

Numerous hotel projects within the Omega portfolio share similar characteristics with Avid, including the sleek lines associated with contemporary lodging architecture and furnishings. Avid will meet the needs of the midscale market in what promises a balance between cost and choices in pillows, shades and a simplified online booking and check-in process.

“The passion and expertise HOS brings to the hospitality market really attracted us to their team,” said Mayo. “We hope this is just the first of many great projects we take on together as they continue to define their local portfolio.”

The Savannah Avid project is expected to take 12 months to finish once the site surcharge is complete.
