Staff Report From Savannah CEO
Thursday, June 27th, 2019
The United Way of the Coastal Empire Bryan County office is organizing its annual school supply drive. Donated school supplies will be distributed to low-income students to make sure that they come prepared and ready for success on the first day of school.
Throughout July, people can donate school supplies and other classroom materials by placing their donations in bins at the collection sites. The supplies needed are listed on the Bryan County School website and include spiral notebooks/composition notebooks, pencils, loose leaf paper, 3-ring binders, glue sticks, pencil pouches, scissors, crayons, rulers, and backpacks. Donations can be dropped-off at Bryan County Family Connections (Richmond Hill and Pembroke), Richmond Hill Fire Department (Station 1 and 2), Publix, Food Lion, Dollar General (Richmond Hill), Angel Early Learning Center, and the Jacob Grant Community Center.
“United Way of the Coastal Empire is grateful to all our partners and community members who are acting as collections sites or are donating supplies. This annual event allows our children to be able to come to the first day of school with the needed supplies to start them on the right path for the school year,” Bryan County Area Director Mary Fuller said.
Volunteers and staff will be organizing backpacks full of school supplies to hand out for each of the schools in Bryan County from elementary through high school. School supplies will also be distributed at community events on both ends of the county; an application is required. These events will be the Community Day Out at Waterfront Church in Richmond Hill on July 27th and the National Night Out in Pembroke on August 6th. Additionally, families can stop by the United Way office in Richmond Hill the week of July 22nd to pick up backpacks or contact either United Way or Bryan County Family Connections to schedule a time to pick up.
