Long County's McClelland Golf Tournament to Aid 200 Club
Staff Report From Savannah CEO
Tuesday, July 30th, 2019
The Long County Sheriff’s Office is set to host the Frank A. McClelland Jr. Golf Tournament to benefit the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Cherokee Rose Golf Course in Hinesville.
In September 2018, Ludowici Police Chief Frank A. McClelland Jr. was killed in the line of duty when he was struck by a drunk driver while trying to divert traffic during a high-speed chase. In the wake of his death, the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire responded to the chief’s family by providing immediate financial assistance and support. Now, just short of the one-year anniversary of the incident, the Long County Sheriff’s Office is hosting the golf tournament to honor Chief McClelland, a life-long Long County resident, while also providing support to the organization that stepped up to help the fallen local hero’s loved ones.
The tournament consists of 21 teams competing in a 4-person scramble format. There is a $200 registration fee per team. Each player will be allowed two mulligans, or replays, throughout the tournament. The first-place team will receive a $400 prize. The second-place team will receive a $300 prize and the third-place team will receive a $200 prize. The tournament will also include a closest-to-the-pin contest and a long-drive competition. Team registration will begin at 1 p.m. Tee time is at 2 p.m.
In addition to the tournament, the event will feature door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. A dinner will be served after play.
The tournament will offer several opportunities to learn more about the Two Hundred Club and the ways in which area residents can support it. Interested parties can sponsor specific holes on the par, and businesses and individuals are encouraged to make contributions of any size. All checks should be made payable to the Two Hundred Club of the Coastal Empire. For more information and registration inquiries regarding the Frank A. McClelland Jr. Golf Tournament, please contact Danny Dinkins at 912-977-1062.
