Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) has announced results from the Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (GKIDS) assessment for School Year (SY) 2018-19. SCA received the second highest score of over 30 Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) Kindergarten programs, and the highest score of district charter schools.

District charter schools reported an average GKIDS score of 88% and an overall district average of 80% for SY 2018-19. SCA scored 96%, making it the highest scoring charter in the district, and second highest of all district schools after Esther F. Garrison which reported a score of 98%. The district’s goal is to improve the GKIDS rating from a SY 2017-18 baseline score of 83% to 85% or higher by the end of SY 2022-23. With a score of 96%, SCA exceeded its annual target as well as the district’s 2023 target.

GKIDS evaluates the percentage of students who have mastered all key skill sets deemed necessary to successfully enter kindergarten, first, and second grades. Introduced in SY 2008-09, this measurement tool is a performance-based, teacher-rated assessment focusing on personal and social development.

“All district charter school Kindergarten programs significantly improved for the 2018-19 school year,” said SCA Director Barry Lollis. “So, we are delighted with SCA’s scores and pleased with the direction our school and fellow charters are headed.”
