On Thursday, Nov. 21, The Salvation Army of Savannah received a charitable donation from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department for their annual Red Kettle Campaign. Chatham County Sheriff John T. Wilcher presented a surprise $5,000 check to Major Paul Egan as he took his turn as a celebrity bell ringer at The Historic Savannah Theatre, the location for the 2019 celebrity bell ringers.

Egan expressed gratitude to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department for supporting The Salvation Army’s mission of ‘Doing The Most Good’.

“We are very thankful for this generous contribution at the start of our annual Red Kettle Campaign,” said Major Egan. “These funds will go directly to those most in need during the holiday season and will help provide desperately needed food and lodging to people in need in our region year-round. We appreciate the Sheriff’s Department for their support in giving back to our local community.”

Chatham County Sheriff John T. Wilcher said, “Everyone at the Chatham County Sheriff Department is committed to providing the highest levels of law enforcement service and we all take personal responsibility for our community both on- and off-duty. This donation of $5,000 recognizes our appreciation and support for the vital work the Salvation Army of Savannah does for those most in need and we challenge other organizations and individuals to give as generously as possible this holiday season.”

The other celebrity bell ringers for 2019 who will appear at The Historic Savannah Theatre until Dec. 24 include Mary Githens with Latin Chicks, Marianna Ganem Poppell with Savannah Master Calendar, Zelonia Williams with Future Minds Inc., Gretchen Derryberry with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, David Pence with Allstate Insurance, Tom Kenkel with Kenkel Design, Pappu Patel owner IMAX Pooler, Mayor of Garden City Don Bethune, Renee Lasalle with Cumulus Media, Missy Jones with Profile by Sanford, the Got Ghost! team, Kym Hogan with Yancey Bros, Tre Singleton with Urban Mentoring, Tonya Reed with Henry Plumbing, LeAndrea Mikell with Savannah Jaycees, the South Magazine team, Tara Reese with Kelly Tours, WSAV News team, Ben Singer with WSAV, Gina Peper with North Point Hospitality. 

The public will have an opportunity to donate directly to the famous red kettles at the Savannah Theatre and other partner locations around the region during the holiday season and donations are also welcomed via the organization’s website at https://salvationarmygeorgia.org/savannah/ or by calling 912-651-7420. New for 2019, individuals can now donate to the red kettles at every location through Apple and Google Pay using their phone for a secure and easy payment option.
