Flannery Home Carries on Tradition of Christmas Reading December 15th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, December 11th, 2019

The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home (FOCCH) will hold its annual reading of Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory,” Sunday, December 15, 2019, 4 p.m., 207 E. Charlton St. This event is free and open to the public.

This will be the first held in memory of Robert Strozier, who passed away in April. Strozier was one of the six founders of the FOCCH nonprofit organization, which purchased the home in 1989 and championed its restoration. Each year, Strozier would read aloud “A Christmas Memory” to a parlor full of expectant guests. FOCCH will continue the tradition with Laura Lawton reading. Lawton is a native of Savannah, and a local historian and author.

Capote wrote the autobiographical short story in 1956. Set in the 1930s, the seven year-old narrator and his elderly best friend embark on a quest to find pecans and moonshine in order to make a special dessert.

This will be the 29th year the event is held. Treats of the season will be available.
