American Association of School Administrators Hosts Youth Apprenticeship Summit in Savannah

The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) hosted a national group of school superintendents in Savannah on January 14-15 to learn about and discuss the need for youth apprenticeships. Nearly 100 superintendents, technical college presidents, work-based learning coordinators, and business leaders attended the two-day Youth Apprenticeship Summit. Throughout the summit, outstanding educators shared best practices and winning strategies to accelerate youth apprenticeship programs in their own districts.
Superintendent of schools Dr. Ann Levett led a panel from Savannah that included Al Wright from Gulfstream, Fish Mihuta of the Maritime Logistics Education Taskforce, and Ron Aikens and Angie Lewis from CTAE.
One of the many highlights of the AASA YA Summit's first day was hearing from SCCPSS students sharing their experiences in the school system's youth apprenticeship program. Students fielded questions about their school/work/life balance, how they liked working, how they managed their studies, whether they participated in extra-curricular activities and more.
The attendees enjoyed some unseasonably warm temperatures while here, but no one was complaining! “Better than snow!” said one guest!
