Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, January 9th, 2020

The Savannah Philharmonic announces An Evening of Tango celebrating the pulse and excitement of Latin dance with hot music, Tango’s seductive moves, and tempting tapas on January 31, 2020.

This innovative fundraiser breaks with tradition and presents a unique guest experience at Savannah’s newest venue in the Starland District – Victory North, 2603 Whitaker St.

The Philharmonic’s new Music and Artistic Director Designate Maestro Keitaro Harada will host the evening as guests enjoy a space transformed to create the authentic vibe of an energetic Argentinian dance party.

Attendees will be welcomed with a “signature sangria” to get them in the spirit of the evening.  Platters of tapas will be served throughout the night and a complimentary full bar is available all evening.  Philharmonic Concertmaster Dr. Sinisa Ciric will lead the musical program as talented tango dancers demonstrate their skill and versatility on the dance floor.

Savannah Philharmonic Board Chair Rhegan White-Clemm said, “Come and heat up your January as we celebrate a new decade, a new Maestro, a newly energized Philharmonic and reinvigorated support for our region’s premier orchestra.

“You don’t want to miss this.”   Event Chair Kelley Parker notes. “Victory North is such a fabulous new venue for our city and the perfect setting for our Milonga Tango.”

A single live auction will touch many would-be maestro’s dreams with the opportunity to conduct the Savannah Philharmonic at Picnic in the Park in October 2020.  The package includes a private coaching session with Maestro Harada, followed by dinner for four with Harada at The Collins Quarter restaurant, a dress rehearsal with the full orchestra, a signed conductor’s baton and the once-in-a-lifetime chance to conduct the Savannah Philharmonic at the city’s favorite outdoor concert,  Picnic in the Park at Forsyth Park.

This event is the orchestra’s major fundraiser of the year, with proceeds supporting the Philharmonic’s mission of informing, instructing and enriching the community through orchestral and choral performances as well as promoting and increasing community knowledge and appreciation of the arts.
