Thousands of Students March in Georgia Day Parade
Staff Report From Savannah CEO
Friday, February 28th, 2020
The annual Georgia Day Parade had a record number of schools participate this year with 42 schools and over 3,000 students, teachers, parents and volunteers. Second and third-grade students from Savannah Chatham County Public Schools dressed in costumes and hit the streets on Friday, February 21, to celebrate the founding of the state of Georgia. Schools were invited to create a banner for their school that represented this year's banner contest theme, “Finding Our Voice." The theme was meant to challenge students to explore the process of developing points of view, exercising civic rights, and examining how the women's suffrage movement inspired later movements and changes in society.
Garden City Elementary School won first place in the elementary banner contest and Southwest Elementary School placed third. Coastal Middle School won the first-ever middle school banner competition trophy.
Happy 287th birthday to Georgia!
