With an abundance of concern for the health and safety of its members, volunteers and the children the event has been created to serve, The Rotary Club of Savannah has made the decision to cancel the third annual Savannah Rotary Read-In (SRRI) due to potential risks associated with the coronavirus. The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 25.

SRRI is a day dedicated to reading to students from pre-Kindergarten to the third grade in 33 schools and over 600 classrooms in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS).

“This was not an easy decision for us, but as Rotarians, we are leaders tasked with setting an example for others to follow,” said Ellen B. Bolch, Rotary Club of Savannah President. “We want to be sure we are following the best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the World Health Organization to minimize the risk for our community, young and old.”

Event co-chairs Nina Gompels and Frank Moore, Jr. are working with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) to find a date in the near future to reschedule the event, once the health risks associated with the coronavirus have subsided.
