Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) announces that the charter school is partnering with Soho South Café to provide meals for students beginning Thursday, March 19 through Sunday, March 22. This support from Soho South Café has been offered to help the families of SCA students during this time of health and economic uncertainty amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This program will run initially for four days before the Savannah Chatham County Public Schools System (SCCPSS) initiates a meal service program for students which is anticipated to begin after Spring Break on Monday, March 23.

SCA student families will be registered by the school to pick up one meal per student from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the rear pick up of Soho South Café which is located at 12 W. Liberty Street in Savannah. The safety and well-being of restaurant staff and student families is of the utmost concern so strict precautionary measures will be taken to keep the community safe with very limited contact and maximum social distancing during this process, in line with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

Soho South Café is one of Daniel Reed Hospitality’s Savannah based restaurants. This local hospitality group is already undertaking a nutritional partnership with SCA, and Jamie Durrence, Managing Partner of Daniel Reed Hospitality said, “We are committed to this community and wanted to provide immediate assistance to SCA students by donating meals during this difficult time for families.”

Earlier this week, SCA announced that the campus, located at 705 E. Anderson Street, will transition from on campus instruction to distance learning after Spring break concludes at the end of this week. All classes at SCA will take place using an online format when students return to their studies to complete the semester’s curriculum.

“We are thankful for Daniel Reed’s support during this challenging time for our students and their families.  SCA is committed to the wellbeing of every student in every way, which is why we have not announced a planned return date to campus learning. However, we are continually monitoring the situation, and are looking forward to a return of our students to our school facilities only when it is safe and feasible to do so,” said SCA Executive Director Barry Lollis.
