Savannah’s New Hampstead K-8 School Project Celebrates First Pour
Staff Report From Savannah CEO
Wednesday, April 8th, 2020
The CPPI team at Savannah’s New Hampstead Kindergarten through 8th Grade School project recently celebrated their first concrete pours.
With the rain finally letting up after a very wet winter, the team poured the concrete slabs for the lower school (K-5), cafeteria, gymnasium, and the main corridor. The masons are now going vertical with block in the gymnasium, as well as the lower school area, while getting hollow metal frames installed. The sitework subcontractor has also begun installation of curbs and gutters. The team’s plan for the coming weeks is to get the remaining slabs poured, as well as have the first steel delivery arrive on site.
Once complete in the summer of 2021, the school will feature more than 93 classrooms. Its facilities will include a gymnasium, athletic fields, an art room, a music room, various labs, a courtyard with three playground areas, raised teacher gardens and more. The school will also include a walking path and an access road that connects the property to neighboring New Hampstead High School, creating a campus-like atmosphere. A new parking lot will have more than 160 parking spaces.
The more than 175,000 square-foot school will add a capacity of 1,500 students to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.
