West Construction Company was recently recognized by the Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia) with two Build Georgia Awards for the construction of local projects EnMarket Corporate Headquarters and the St. Francis Xavier Narthex.
Completed in 2019, the EnMarket Corporate Headquarters campus was a fast-paced construction of two buildings totaling 50,000 square feet and eight acres of civil construction on Savannah’s growing Chatham Parkway corridor. The 25,000 square foot Class-A office building serves as the corporate office for EnMarket’s growing operation and the 25,000 square foot flex warehouse serves as the hub for many of their critical logistical operations. The accelerated project was completed in only 10 months despite numerous weather delays, including two hurricanes. Most importantly, the project was constructed with 50,000 hours of labor without a single safety incident. The building was designed by Greenline Architecture, Tharpe Structural Engineering, and Kern Co. provided civil engineering.
The St Francis Xavier Catholic Church Narthex was also completed in 2019 and is a 3000 square foot narthex addition to provide assembly spaces for the growing and storied congregation at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. While small in square footage, this project was technically and logistically challenging as the addition was constructed over Richmond Street, a previously operational thoroughfare bordering Hanover Park in downtown Brunswick. The existing Richmond Street utilities and power supply were relocated around the adjacent block and structures prior to constructing the addition, which delicately tied in two historic structures. Construction was completed while working with the congregation and school to keep them in operation and minimize the impact of construction. Despite the project’s inherent challenges, it was delivered on-schedule and under-budget through a negotiated delivery. The building was designed by Felder & Associates Architects, RWP Engineering, and Coastal Civil Engineering.
AGC Georgia is the leading, statewide trade association representing the commercial construction industry in Georgia. The organization holds an annual awards competition where projects are judged on their ability to demonstrate excellence in several categories including exceptional project safety performance, overcoming the challenges of a difficult project, innovation in construction techniques and materials, excellence in project management and scheduling, and dedication to client service and customer care. The selection panel includes industry professionals and hundreds of projects are submitted annually. Award recipients are also featured in a special construction-focused supplement in the June issue of Atlanta Business Chronicle.
