Mediation Center Recognizes Partners with Awards

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021

At the Mediation Center’s Fourth Annual Velvet Gala, Savannah youth inspired the audience. In addition to motivation from area youth, the Mediation Center recognized volunteers and community leaders who support mediation services, the Family Law Resource Center, peacebuilding efforts, and youth and family programs. Supporters celebrated this year’s virtual Velvet Gala online on Thursday, Feb. 11.

Velvet Gala featured welcoming addresses from Superior Court Chief Judge Penny Freesemann and Savannah Mayor Van Johnson. The event was highlighted with speeches from youth peer mediators and facilitators Ray’Neshia Williams, Carter Cummings, William Dorroh, and Madison Orr.  Youth Education Manager for the Mediation Center Dr. Chiquetta Thompson shared, “Savannah’s youth have stepped up in amazing ways during the pandemic. Their vision and commitment inspires us all in our work and will have lasting impact for multiple generations.”
