The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Coastal Georgia Chapter has announced the 2021 Women in Construction (WIC) Week taking place March 8th through the 13th in Savannah, Georgia. The focus of WIC Week is to highlight women as a viable component of the construction industry. WIC Week also provides an occasion for NAWIC’s thousands of members across the country to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry.

WIC Week also serves as a time for local chapters to give back to their communities. This year the Coastal Georgia Chapter is partnered with the ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) Mentor Program of Savannah. The ACE Mentor Program of Savannah introduces high school students to exciting careers in the architectural, construction, and engineering professions and supports their higher education goals through merit-based scholarships. They are currently serving high schoolers in the Southeast Georgia & South Carolina area virtually. “We are thrilled to be partnering with such an incredible mentorship organization for future women in construction and areas of the built environment,'' stated Laura Skelle, president of NAWIC Coastal Georgia. “We hold education and support of future stewards of the built environment paramount and could not be more excited to join forces with a like-minded organization.”

Highlights from the week will include a presentation of scholarships to Savannah Technical College and Windsor Forest students; tours of Re:Purpose Lumber Yard, Jenkins High School, Alair Homes Residential, and The Harambee House; and many social media campaigns throughout the week.
