District Gelato, the newest restaurant at Plant Riverside District in Savannah, Ga., is now open, offering Savannah’s only house-made gelato as well as fresh-baked Italian cookies, biscotti, shakes, sundaes and more. Located on the street level of Plant Riverside District’s Three Muses building at 400 W. River St., District Gelato serves 24 fresh gelato and sorbet flavors made entirely from scratch on-site.

“We’re thrilled to open District Gelato and are delighted to share house-made gelato, sorbet and Italian cookies with local residents and visitors from across the country and around the world,” said JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District Executive Chef Kyle Lipetzky. “Our goal is to stay true to authentic Italian gelato, which uses the freshest possible ingredients to create delicious flavors.”

Italian-style gelato and sorbet flavors featuring fresh ingredients are created by JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District Executive Pastry Chef Sarah Hernandez. A highly successful gelato maker and experienced pastry chef, Hernandez previously made gelato at Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tenn., and at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.

“We’re creating all of our gelato completely from scratch in small batches using fresh eggs, milk, fruit and other ingredients,” said Hernandez. “It’s exciting to offer 24 distinctive flavors, just in time for summer in Savannah, in the heart of Savannah’s Entertainment District.”

Signature gelato flavors featured in a handsome glass and stainless steel display case include pistachio, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, mint chip, lemon sorbet, cookie dough, chocolate-hazelnut, pina colada and many more.

District Gelato is also Savannah’s exclusive source for bubble waffle cones, which are tasty, Instagram-worthy textured ice cream cones made in-house. Additional highlights include house-made waffle cones, fresh Italian cookies and biscotti as well as a variety of sundaes, shakes and cookie sandwiches that can be paired with hot butterscotch, strawberry and hot fudge toppings. Bottled sodas and water are also available for purchase.

The venue’s interiors feature a lively color palette blending white with strawberry, pistachio and limoncello accents. Unique balloon-shaped light fixtures create a whimsical atmosphere that’s ideal for all ages.

District Gelato is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday from noon to 9 p.m.
