Hancock Askew & Co. is Excited to Announce, William Scarborough, Tax/SEC Director, has Joined the Firm

Hancock Askew & Co., LLP (HAC), a full-service audit, tax, accounting, and advisory firm, is proud to announce the hire of William (Bill) Scarborough as a Tax/SEC Director out of the firm’s Savannah office.
As Director, Bill will work with the firm’s clients to provide tax, forensic accounting, and litigation support consulting services. Bill specializes in U.S. GAAP and financial reporting, SEC reporting and enforcement, forensic accounting, litigation support, and taxation. Specifically, Bill will help guide clients through complex GAAP and accounting/tax issues. He will serve as a technical resource to help clients interpret securities laws, resolve accounting/tax disputes, fulfill disclosure requirements, and assist with compliance of regulations. He also will consult with clients on tax litigation issues.

Bill recently retired from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) after a 30-year career. During his tenure with the SEC, Bill received six Director Awards, the Chairman’s Award for Excellence, and multiple Special Act Awards for outstanding work on financial fraud investigations. Most recently, he served as Associate Chief Accountant in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement. Previously, Bill was assistant chief accountant in the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance. Before joining the SEC, Bill was a senior tax manager at an international accounting firm in Atlanta.
Bill has earned several professional accounting certifications including Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Management Accountant, Certified Global Management Accountant, Certified Valuation Analyst, and IRS Enrolled Agent
Bill received a B.B.A. in Accounting and Marketing-Management from Armstrong State University, a Master of Taxation and Master of Professional Accountancy from Georgia State University graduating summa cum laude, and a law degree from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law graduating magna cum laude. Bill has recently taken tax courses in the Georgetown Law LLM TAX program. In 2013, Bill received the Notable Alumni Award from Armstrong State University.
