City of Port Wentworth Announces Traffic Disruption
Friday, May 9th, 2025
The City of Port Wentworth announces that beginning on Monday, May 12, local traffic will be affected by the construction of new facilities at Anchor Park.
Construction traffic will be bringing equipment and materials to install the park’s planned 5,500-seat outdoor amphitheater and 90,000-square-foot arena known as the "Ice Cove." Areas which will be most affected include trucks leaving I95 via Hwy 21 heading to the new park entrance on Meinhard Road via Hendley and Montieth Roads. Congestion is expected in these places until early June, especially as large vehicles turn from Hendley Road onto Montieth Roads.
“We are asking for people’s understanding and recommend they allow a little longer for their journeys during the next few weeks,” said City Manager Steve Davis. “Anchor Park’s amenities will significantly enhance quality of life, employment opportunities and property values for residents.”
The new 150-acre recreational sports and entertainment park’s Ice Cove will serve as a training ground for the region’s professional ice hockey team, the Savannah Ghost Pirates. Significantly for residents, the training facilities will be open to the public, providing two regulation-sized ice rinks (which can be covered for events), a restaurant with a bar, and a retail shop, among other amenities. In addition to the amphitheater the park will feature a variety of multi-use fields and courts for sporting activities including pickleball, softball, baseball, and soccer. There will also be a farmers’ market and a recreational gym,
