Coastal Heritage Society (CHS) is honored to receive a $25,000 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Celebrate America! grant in support of its upcoming exhibition, Loyalists & Liberty: Savannah in the American Revolution. The funding will assist with the fabrication of large artifact mounts designed to display a rare collection of 19 Revolutionary War-era cannons that were discovered during the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP). Set to open at Savannah History Museum in July 2026, the exhibition will coincide with the nation’s 250th anniversary and highlight Savannah’s pivotal role in the American Revolution

“We are deeply grateful to National Endowment for the Humanities for their generous support of Loyalists & Liberty,” said Nora Fleming Lee, CEO of Coastal Heritage Society. “This grant enables us to present this extraordinary artillery as a complete collection, giving visitors a chance to explore coastal Georgia’s impact on America’s founding.

The cannons are currently undergoing conservation treatment at Texas A&M University as CHS continues to develop the exhibition in preparation for their historic debut. Only a few cannons are still in need of sponsorships. For more information, please email [email protected]
