Metro Savannah Unemployment Rate Falls in July

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.1% in July, down one-tenth over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4%.
“Our greatest strength is our people and the businesses that call Georgia home," said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “July’s unemployment numbers show progress across most metro areas, and even where there are slight upticks, year-over-year trends reflect our resilience. By investing in our workforce and supporting a strong environment for business, Georgia will continue to win and drive economic growth for all Georgians.”
The labor force in Savannah decreased by 115 from the previous month and ended the month at 208,972. That number declined by 2,947 from July 2024.
Savannah finished the month with 202,518 employed residents. That number increased by 164 from the previous month and decreased by 2,202 from the same time last year.
Savannah ended July with 207,400 jobs. Jobs decreased by 400 from the previous month and were unchanged from the same time last year.
In July, initial unemployment claims increased by 46 from the previous month and decreased by 66 from the same month a year ago, totaling 522.
