Telfair Museums announces Free Family Day
Tuesday, August 5th, 2025
Telfair Museums will host a Free Family Day for anyone in the community interested in the art of clay making from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Jepson Center, located at 207 W York Street in Savannah. This Free Family Day celebrates the art of clay and the ceramic arts in conjunction with The Moss Mystique and (Un)Grounded exhibitions.
“At Telfair Museums, we believe in giving back to the community by opening our exhibitions and artistic activities,” said Harry Delorme, Director of Education and Senior Curator. “This exciting back-to-school season is the perfect time to inspire minds and ignite creativity.”
Families are invited to participate in hands-on clay making activities, demonstrations of ceramic arts, and exploration of Telfair’s Children’s Art Museum. Free admission to the Jepson Center is available for all residents of Chatham, Effingham, Bryan, Liberty, Bulloch, Beaufort, and Jasper Counties. Numerous local artists from the Savannah Clay Community will be in attendance with demonstrations and examples of their work. Family participants of all ages will be able to paint their own pottery and designs based on the work during this fun-filled back-to-school seasonal event.
Opening in 1886, Telfair Museums is the oldest public art museum in the South and the first U.S. Museum founded by a woman. The museum features a world-class art collection in the heart of Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District and encompasses three sites: the Jepson Center for the Arts, the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, and the Telfair Academy.
