Dewitt Tilton Group to Fund and Pack Holiday Dinner Boxes with Backpacks of Love
Friday, December 5th, 2025
The Dewitt Tilton Group, a regional leader in commercial and industrial design-build construction, will join Backpacks of Love this week to assemble holiday dinner boxes for Bryan County families, extending the firm’s year-end tradition of service. Alongside the volunteer shift, DTG will present a $2,000 contribution to help purchase high-need pantry staples for the Christmas distribution.
“Community is part of how we build,” said Chris Tilton, president and co-founder of Dewitt Tilton Group. “Showing up to load, pack and stage boxes is direct, practical help for neighbors, and it’s something our team looks forward to every year.”
Founded in 2013 by McAllister Elementary School employee Melodie Lane, Backpacks of Love addresses weekend and holiday food gaps for school-age children in Bryan County by sending food home every Friday and before extended school breaks. During the school year, the program supports roughly 250–300 meals each week, working with community partners including United Way of the Coastal Empire and New Beginnings Community Church. Holiday boxes typically include a main protein, vegetables, sides and shelf-stable staples so families can share a full meal together. Year-round donations from individuals and critical support from local businesses like Dewitt Tilton Group strengthen the effort.
“When local businesses bring both funding and hands, families feel it right away,” said Steve Lane, senior pastor at New Beginnings Community Church. “Consistency at the holidays keeps boxes moving when demand is highest.”
Christmas season packages include ham and turkey, canned fruits and vegetables, and other shelf-stable food items to ensure a full, traditional, and nutritious holiday meal.
