Metro Savannah Unemployment Rate Falls in September

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 2.9% in September, down three-tenths over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.9%.
“Unemployment in Georgia dropped across nearly every region in September," said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. "As we approach the end of the year, we’re staying focused on keeping workers ready, businesses strong, and opportunity growing across the state.”
The labor force in Savannah increased by 856 from the previous month and ended the month at 208,855. That number declined by 1,311 from September 2024.
Savannah finished the month with 202,725 employed residents. That number increased by 1,320 from the previous month and decreased by 1,385 from the same time last year.
Savannah ended September with 206,800 jobs. Jobs decreased by 500 from the previous month and were down 500 from the same time last year.
In September, initial unemployment claims decreased by 12 from the previous month and decreased by 45 from the same month a year ago, totaling 521.
