The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), the global leader in art, design, and innovation in higher education, proudly announces the debut of SCAD LUXE, the university’s groundbreaking luxury archive and research center at SCAD locations in Atlanta and Savannah.
Established to advance scholarly and professional engagement with the global $360 billion luxury sector, SCAD LUXE grants students unprecedented access to a curated collection of rare and iconic goods, from couture garments and fine accessories to fragrances and bespoke design objects. This working classroom and dynamic research laboratory serves as both an academic resource and an immersive atelier for study and discovery, where students from SCAD’s top-ranked De Sole School of Business Innovation and School of Fashion explore the artistry, heritage, storytelling, and innovation that define the world’s most esteemed luxury houses.
“Preparing students for leadership in today’s global industries requires an education that meaningfully connects academic rigor with professional practice,” said Meloney Moore, Dean for the SCAD De Sole School of Business Innovation. “At SCAD and within the De Sole School of Business Innovation, we are committed to advancing this approach through dynamic, experiential classrooms and studio-based learning. SCAD LUXE is an unparalleled resource in higher education as an archive and research center that provides students with direct access to legendary maisons and the rich history of luxury craftsmanship. By extending learning beyond theory into a professional environment of discovery, analysis, and mastery, SCAD LUXE further positions our graduates to lead at the highest levels of the global luxury industry. This initiative exemplifies SCAD’s commitment to continually elevating the student learning experience.”
Expertly curated from the SCAD Permanent Collection, the inaugural exhibition at SCAD LUXE, The Art of Luxury: Iconic Craftsmanship, celebrates the visual and material excellence of heritage maisons such as Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Tiffany & Co., Chanel, Scalamandré, Gucci, Christofle, and more, highlighting their enduring house codes, artistry, and timeless design philosophies. Through this immersive presentation, SCAD students across disciplines including luxury and brand management, creative business leadership, business of beauty and fragrance, fashion marketing and management, fashion design, accessory design, advertising and branding, and more, advance their mastery by examining the dialogue between tradition and innovation that continues to shape the evolving world of luxury.
In an exclusive presentation at SCAD LUXE at SCAD Savannah, Scalamandré’s storied archives are shown for the first time at an educational institution. Distinctly curated to reflect SCAD’s multidisciplinary curriculum, the exhibition traces the brand’s historical and contemporary influence through iconic prints, landmark collaborations, and rare archival fabrics and documents. Said Christopher Renzo, senior vice president of business operations at Scalamandré, “Engaging with SCAD students allows us to share the Scalamandré legacy while learning from the next generation of designers.” Rotating exhibitions and curations will be presented at SCAD LUXE in Atlanta and Savannah throughout the academic year, illustrating key concepts of luxury.
The launch of SCAD LUXE underscores the university’s commitment to incorporating unrivaled resources in higher education and providing elite, real-world learning environments that merge academic and industry excellence. SCAD LUXE empowers the next generation of SCAD visionaries to lead in their professional endeavors at the highest levels of fashion, design, and luxury innovation.
