Reading is one of the most important skills a child develops, and families play a powerful role in helping children build strong literacy habits. T
To support parents and caregivers, Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB), in partnership with the Georgia Department of Education, has created Raising a Reader, a series of short videos and resources designed to help families encourage reading at every stage of a child's development. The series offers practical tips, age-appropriate strategies, and simple ways to make reading a meaningful part of daily life.
Whether your child is just beginning to explore books, developing reading confidence in elementary school, or strengthening comprehension skills in middle and high school, these resources provide ideas you can use at home to support their learning. Topics include:
- Building early language and communication skills
- Creating positive reading routines
- Encouraging independent reading
- Strengthening comprehension and critical thinking
- Fostering a lifelong love of books and learning
We encourage families to explore the videos that best match their child's grade level and discover new ways to make reading an enjoyable part of every day. Visit GPB's Raising a Reader resource hub:
Together, we can help every student grow as a reader and build the skills they need for success in school and beyond. The Raising a Reader video series is provided by Georgia Public Broadcasting in partnership with the Georgia Department of Education and Georgia Public Broadcasting.
