Metro Savannah Labor Force Reaches All-Time High as Unemployment Rate Rises to 3.1% in June

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area reported a record-high labor force in June, along with an unemployment rate of 3.1%, up four-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.1%.
“June brings the temporary seasonal changes we see every year as schools let out for the summer, but as Georgia’s workforce continues to grow, our year-over-year trends remain stable,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “Short-term fluctuations are normal in a resilient economy, and the bigger picture is clear: Georgia remains a state where opportunity is within reach, hard work is rewarded, and every Georgian has the chance to build a better life.”
The labor force in Savannah increased by 701 over the month and ended the month at 221,818, an all-time high. That number increased by 3,585 from June 2025.
Savannah finished the month with 215,025 employed residents. That number decreased by 205 over the month and increased 3,494 from the same time last year.
Savannah ended June with 217,100 jobs. Jobs were unchanged from the previous month and up 1,200 from the same time last year.
In June, initial unemployment claims increased by 101 from the previous month and rose by 46 from the same month a year ago, totaling 522.
