Tybee Island Maritime Academy Acquires Former Thunderbolt Elementary Property

The Foundation for Maritime Education completed the purchase of the former Thunderbolt Elementary School property on July 13, 2026, Tybee Island Maritime Academy announced Monday.
The acquisition was approved by the TIMA Governing Board at its June meeting. School leadership said the property gives the organization the potential for a permanent home to expand its programs.
