The State Bar of Georgia announces that Rita A. Sheffey has resigned as president-elect of the organization. "Rita's commitment to public service, bar leadership and Georgia's legal community is without question," said State Bar President Robert J. Kauffman. "We thank Rita for her years of hard work and dedication to our mission and principles."

In accordance with the State Bar's bylaws, President Kauffman has appointed Savannah attorney and current Bar Treasurer Patrick T. O'Connor to fill the vacancy of president-elect. O'Connor will serve until the next regular meeting of the Board of Governors to be held in Savannah on Oct. 24. The Board will then elect a successor for the unexpired term. The office of president for 2016-17 will be filled by a majority vote of the entire membership during the election process in the spring.
